I've moved over to a new blog. Trying to more to actively celebrate my new home. Still homesick for New Orleans, but I feel very lucky to have ended up where I am. Come visit me here.

Last year, Hurricane Ivan seemed poised for a direct hit to New Orleans. In the face of Ivan, I emailed a high and somewhat mighty note to friends. I said: We don’t know what our plans are, but most of my friends are evacuating. I find it so hard to leave my home so flippantly. Evacuation seems so easy. It shouldn’t be easy to leave behind the place that you love. And those words ring in my ears now: It shouldn’t be easy. And it wasn’t.
