starting home
Tomorrow, we'll start the trek homeward. We expect to get back into the city on Tuesday. We're anxious and excited. I'll keep y'all posted. First stop: Tallahassee.

Last year, Hurricane Ivan seemed poised for a direct hit to New Orleans. In the face of Ivan, I emailed a high and somewhat mighty note to friends. I said: We don’t know what our plans are, but most of my friends are evacuating. I find it so hard to leave my home so flippantly. Evacuation seems so easy. It shouldn’t be easy to leave behind the place that you love. And those words ring in my ears now: It shouldn’t be easy. And it wasn’t.
